1) Lakshmi and her family live in a small village in Nepal and is desperately poor. 2) In the small village in Nepal a big monsoon occurs. 3)Lakshmi meets a stranger who say she can get a job as being a maid in the city. 4)Instead of being a maid Lakshmi finds out she had actually been sold to prostitution. 5)Lakshmi's new boss Mumtaz is cruel and says she cannot leave until she pays of her families debt but, actually Mumtaz is tricking Lakshmi to make her stay forever. 6) Lakshmi meets a customer who is an American who tells her he will save her and bring her to a "clean" place. 7) The American comes back and save Lakshmi from Mumtaz.

1) Life is simple for Lakshmi and doesn't have very many items and doesn't have much excitement in her life 2)The monsoon wipes out her family's crops and Lakshmi must get a job to help provide for her family. 3)Lakshmi goes to India to be a "maid". 4) Lakshmi has no choice but to stay and do what she is told. 5) Lakshmi suffers there for a tremendous amount of time. 6) Lakshmi waits and longs for the American to come back and save her. 7) Mumtaz gets arrested and taken away.

Theme:
In the story, Sold by Patricia McCormick we learn a lot about how in our lives we can have unimaginable conflicts that can really effect us. Sold shows that not matter how hard the conflict is, we can all have a little something called hope. Throughout the end of the story there are a couple chapters that really focus on the whole point in having hope that everything will be ok. One of the chapters is titled, " Ready" this chapter is about how Lakshmi knows that everything will turn out fine and she is ready to leave all the terrible things that once happened. Another chapter is titled, "Believing" this show that Lakshmi believes in the American  to come and rescue her. In the story Sold Lakshmi, a thirteen year old girl is sold to prostitution where she experiences terrible things. Lakshmi doesn't give up. She doesn't quit, she has hope that someday someone can save her. In the end, all turns out well and Lakshmi goes back to living a new and happier lifestyle.
